From ingestion to excretion. Anatomical structures and physiological functions of the gastrointestinal tract that are responsible for digestion, metabolism, and absorption of food. Mechanisms through which the gastrointestinal tract is connected to, and help regulate, other systems including, cardiovascular, respiratory, immune, central and peripheral nervous, musculoskeletal, and endocrine systems.
