Introduction to sociological approaches to the study of social networks. Exploration of core concepts, and tools to describe networks (e.g. centrality and reach) as well as critical tools to understand and critique contemporary network formations like social media platforms. Emphasis is placed on the study of online social networks and their social, political and economic consequences at both the personal and collective levels. Ethical and epistemological aspects of data gathering through social networks.
