The study of how animals move. This course will focus on the properties of muscle and skeletal tissues and how they interact to produce essential movements in locomotion and feeding of animals. A basic introduction to swimming, flying and different types of terrestrial locomotion will be covered along with basic biomechanical measurement techniques. The course will be divided among lectures, seminar presentations and practical labs that reinforce course content. There will be a large comparative and evolutionary component to the discussions held in class. (Offered in alternate years.)
