Study of culture as a central but contested concept in anthropology. The course examines anthropology's role in making sense of cultural differences, bridging cultural divides, and creating grounds for mutual understanding. Analysis of questions of diversity, pluralism, hybridity, modernity, multiculturalism, appropriation, and identity and belonging. Questions of decolonization, politics of representation, and issues surrounding cultural authenticity and authority are addressed.
