Comparative political analysis of development in various regions of the world (Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America & the Caribbean). Theories of political and economic development. The role of international organizations, states, and non-state actors in the politics of development. Effects on societies of their incorporation into the global economy. Study of selected issues such as self-determination, state-society relations and democracy, sustainable development and social justice. Case studies drawn mainly from countries having adopted different approaches to development. (COMP)
