MAT 2342 Introduction to Applied Linear Algebra

Review of vector spaces and matrix algebra via applications to Economics and Science. Inner products, Gram-Schmidt, orthogonal projections. Orthogonal matrices. Eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization of symmetric matrices. Singular value decomposition. Quadratic forms, properties of symmetric, positive-definite, and idempotent matrices. Minimization of quadratic forms and least squares approximation, principal component analysis. Linear programming, duality and the simplex method.
