The study of how organisms deal with and respond to substances in their environment: pharmacology generally focusing on desirable and therapeutic effects, and toxicology examining adverse effects and associate risks. The fundamental principles of toxicology and pharmacology (route of exposure/administration, absorption, distribution, biotransformation, site and mechanism of action, elimination) and common research methodologies employed by pharmacologists and toxicologists.
