Introduction to the history of visual art and architecture from around the world from ancient times until the mid-nineteenth century. Study of iconic and unprecedented examples of architecture, painting, sculpture, carpets, textiles, ceramics, glass, and metal-work from the world. Examination of contexts (social, cultural, religious, political, technological, and economic) in which the artworks were created and instances of cultural exchange and cultural hybridity.
